Metal Assemblies Ltd Strengthens CNC Turning Capability as Standalone Manufacturing Service Following MACH 2026 Investment
West Bromwich, UK – April 2026 – Metal Assemblies Ltd, a long-established Tier 2 advanced manufacturer of precision-engineered metal pressings and welded assemblies, has reinforced its long-term machining strategy with the order of two new Star SR-32JIII Type B sliding head lathes, placed at MACH 2026.
The investment marks a significant next step in the continued development of Metal Assemblies’ CNC turning capability, which has historically supported the company’s internal production requirements for complex welded assemblies. Increasingly, this capability is also gaining traction as a standalone machining service, attracting new customers seeking high-quality precision turned parts as a direct supply solution.
The new machines replace a pair of previous-generation Star SR sliding head lathes that each delivered nearly 15 years of reliable service, underlining Metal Assemblies’ commitment to continuous investment, long-term reliability, and manufacturing resilience. The order was finalised by Iain Collis Managing Director and Nigel Mason Engineering Director of Metal Assemblies Ltd, in collaboration with Sam Ayres, Star Micronics’ newly appointed Midlands Area Sales Manager.
Featuring the latest Star technology, including Step Cycle Pro chip-breaking software, alongside improvements in rigidity, swarf management, and operator ergonomics, the new SR-32JIII machines will enhance productivity, process stability, and capacity across a wide range of turned components.
While CNC turning has long formed part of Metal Assemblies’ vertically integrated manufacturing model, the business is increasingly seeing demand for turned parts supplied independently of fabrication, Stamping and welding operations. This reflects wider industry demand for reliable UK-based machining capacity capable of handling both volume production and technically demanding components.
Investment in CNC turning supports both Metal Assemblies’ core welded assembly operations and its expanding role as a dedicated machining partner. The additional capacity and advanced process control provided by the new machines position the business to support both existing assembly programs and new machining-only opportunities.
